Review : At the heart of the silk city of Berhampur, also known as Brahmapur in southern part of Odisha, lies this exquisite restaurant serving authentic Odia food. You may get a feel of the kind of food served in the restaurant by going through the list of items mentioned in their menu card: Pakhal, Badi Chura, Bharta, Saga, Dali and Tarkari, among others. When we visited the restaurant at around 11 am we were the first customer of the day, since the lunch time was just beginning. We preferred to order a "Dahi Pakhal'" combination which included Dahi Pakhal, Badi Chura, Alu Bharta, Koshala Saga and Kunduru Bhaja. At a billing of just Rs.79 (plus taxes) it was quite a nice and homely lunch for us. One understands that in the evening the restaurant remains closed; which means, if you visit there in the evening with the expectation of finding an Odia dinner, you might be disappointed. We suggest that the promoters should think of starting an evening service also.

The culinary tradition of Odisha is centuries old. It is intertwined with the cultural identity of Odisha, and has evolved over a long period of time to acquire a uniqueness of its own. Odia foods are less spicy and less oily, making them one of the healthiest foods of India. The Mahaprasad served to the deities in the famous Jagannath temple of Puri represents the heritage of the food traditions of Odisha. Rice, pulses and seasonal vegetables serve as the basic ingredient of Odia foods. Besides, fish and sea foods also form a major part of the food preferences in Odisha.
