Review : A visit to the restaurant at Saket in New Delhi was a pleasant experience. In fact, we know what to expect there, since we had earlier paid a visit to their main restaurant at Saheed Nagar, Bhubaanesawar. The best thing to mention is the way they serve the food. It is done on the traditional brass trays and bowls. Even the tumbler in which water is served is made of brass. They would also often put a fresh banana leaf on the large brass tray before laying the food . The restaurant specializes in traditional non-vegetarian dishes. We were even told that they don't source the mutton, prawn, and crabs from the local market of Delhi. Rather these are flown all the way from Odisha. So when you enjoy the delicious Chingudi Jhola here, be sure that it is made of the genuine Odisha prawn from the Chilika lake. But how do they manage the do it? Is it sustainable? The question remains open. That day being a vegetarian day for us, we ordered a complete vegetarian Thali. We had Bhata, Dalma, Bad Chura, Leutia Saga Bhaja, Jahni Aalu Posta, Besara, Ghanta, Phula Kobi Tarkari, Dahi Baigana, and to top it all, the traditional Odia Khiri. For the lovers of non-vegetarian food of course , the restaurant has on offer the traditional dishes such a Khasi Mansa Jhola, Chingudi Jhola, Kankada Jhola, Rohi Machha Besara and Mahurali Machha Bhaja, among others. Our only apprehension is that restaurants relying solely on typical Odia recipes often find it difficult to be commercially viable, the lack of patronage from the Odia populace being the prime reason. We hope the Odisha Hotel would prove such apprehensions wrong.
